The younglings of today walk around seemingly indifferent to their surroundings. Ten years ago, grunge enthused teenagers had a real sense of anarchic nihilism, as undoubtably teenagers should. Venues trashed, hair bleached, plaid shirts ripped.

Prior to that, skinheads and punks were donning their various uniforms to spit, snarl and kick shit out of one another; just as teddy boys were doing on the seafronts of various coastal cesspools nationwide prior to that.

What worries me is that asymmetric hairdos, and indifference have replaced a do-it-yourself-ethic and a feeling of community, which has a knock-on effect on fashion, creating hordes of H&M production line, powder puff rebels.

I'd love nothing more than to be proved wrong in this of course, so feel free to do so; next time you're at a gig consider for example, setting something on fire, starting a punch up or, if you're not quite ready to plunge that deep into defience yet, phone your mum and tell her you'll be 15 minutes late for tea and there's nothing she can do about it!
