Any of you, who may be like me, will have watched the first Transformers film a hundred times and seen Starscream jet off out of the earth’s atmosphere at the end, would have noticed that it’s left nicely open for ROTF. Of course there is the question ‘well what’s the point of the second one as the whole basis of the giant robot rampage was destroyed at the end of the first one?’ Well no need to worry, there is a decent plot behind this film showing some unexpected and visually awesome aspects of Transformer history. I enjoyed this film so much that if I went through everything - I would be here forever so I will be as brief as possible.

Of course Sam (Shia LaBeouf) is there and as with any American adventure he’s still with his dream girl, Mikaela (Megan Fox). Of course as the way is of things his life is about to get a whole lot more complicated as he’s called up again to help the Autobots fight off those pesky Decepticons and save the world. This adventure gets underway with many characters from the first film, within the second sequence, given a smooth transfer between the two films. Most of these are involved in a crack Autobot/human team put together to take out the Decepticon threat, and the film goes on in a stylish and action filled manner from there. The first thing you notice is that they have concentrated a lot more on what gave the first film its charm, and that’s giving the robots more character. I feel this may irritate some more die hard fans but it makes the film very accessible and

extremely fun throughout. This aspect is greatly shown with a new comedy duo of Autobots that appear. These two are slap stick comedy on a Transformer level and work really well together as some comedic relief for the duration of the movie. Having said that, I do have a personal favourite from the list of new bot’s and that is Jetfire.

Jetfire is an old bumbling Decepticon who chose the side of the Autobots thousands of years ago and is rudely awoken by our heroes of the story. Everything from that ‘Old Man’ behaviour you recognise from your granddad, to the fact his walking stick is the landing gear of the aircraft he transforms from, his character is well conceived and brilliantly executed. This film is very much the first one pumped full of enough steroids to turn anyone into Arnie, but still remains stylish. To see that many transformers in battle in such slick CGI is any 10 yr old and fully-grown man’s dream. What’s more is that even with everything that’s going on they haven’t let the special effects slip one bit. Many people criticise Michael Bay’s directing & producing but let’s face he’s done a damn good job on both these films and I am eagerly awaiting the third instalment.
