The mastermind behind the designs is singer Alayna Salter. maddog paid a little visit to see how things all got started. MD: How would you describe your jewellery? Alayna: Fun, quirky, bright and playful! MD: Where do you get your inspiration from? Alayna: From places I go and things I see - the 7 Cities Collection is inspired by my favourite cities and the colours associated with them. It was fun to travel and design! MD: I understand that Kitson stock your designs, have you thought about opening your own store? Alayna: Yes it would be a dream to have our own little Punky Allsorts land!

MD: What are your plans for your next collection? Alayna: It’s a work in progress but I am currently creating some one off’s for red carpet events which will be high end and limited edition pieces. MD: You have such a great celebrity following, when did this all start? Who was the first? Alayna: Right from the start it has always been a brand that has attracted the attention of celebrities and it’s nice to be able to say that. I remember hearing that the Hilton Sisters were fans of the brand and then I got sent a picture of Nicky wearing my jewellery so that was probably the first. MD: How did Punky Allsorts begin? Alayna: I used to design outfits and jewellery and wear them at my gigs, people starting asking after the pieces and offered to buy them, so Punky Allsorts was born. MD: How is your music career going since the launch of Punky Allsorts? Alayna: It’s amazing some fabulous opportunities have arisen. I am just finishing off my debut album and looking forward to releasing. MD: What do you think having your new song ‘Smacked’ on the Sony compilation will do for your career? Alayna: I am hoping it will give me a platform in which to launch my music career and I am so pleased to be included by Sony. It is such an honour to have my music alongside that of Britney and Girls Aloud! MD: Would you still keep up your jewellery line? Alayna: I will always make time for both as fashion and music go hand in hand for me and they are great ways of expressing myself. Words > Kate Southgate |
